Hackertip 22: Virus Scan

OK my hacker beotches so you are coming onto the internet for the first time and you are youngstupid and naeive what do u do? You get caught out by l33t hacker like Ramzi! Bang your computer shut down! So u are thinnki8ng what has the been happening, well my beotches u either got hacked or u got a virus. So u are thinking how do i stop virus or being hacked. Well you should know but if u dont.... USE A FIREWALL AND VIRUS SCAN!!!
So now you are thinking hmmm ok that is good but which ones do i use
Well my hacker beotches let me tell you i have been using the internet for long time now and have come to find that the best virus Scans are (in order)
1.Kaspersky
2. Mcafee and Norton Antivirus (TIED)
3. AVG

These are being the updated list. Kaspersky uses your ram up like a bitch but its da shitz!!!
So now what do u use for a firewall?
well Ramzi uses these ones.

1. Norton Internet Security
2. Zone Alarm Pro (Or zone alarm if you want it free)
3. McAfee personal desktop firewall
You got other? Tell me in the comments?!!

These are the ones i have found to be best and again they are in order.
So there u go my hacker beotches use this and u make it harder for hackers to get onto your computer
Windows XP has a built in firewall but it is not that good. To activate it (if you dont have SP2 which activates it automatically) go to
Start-View available connections- Open your internet connection that u use- go to properties tab (the very last one) and click the box which will activate the not so good firewall. Be warned it is better to get one of the ones listed above as well as using this one.
Peace out to the broken crew

Because AVG is free does that mean that it will be finding all the viruses? You are being cheap, and most probally will be fucked. Have a nice day

I'll agree that Norton AntiVirus 2005 Pro and past versions are fairly bad. Mostly because of the sheer number of false positives but also because of what it's supposed to find and yet does'nt. I finally dumped it after I had a random e-mail with an attachent arrive in my inbox and Norton did'nt even blink. I knew it had to be malicious. I ran liveupdate and found no new definitions since the last time I updated two days earlier. I even went to symantec.com and got the latest manual definitions for the latest threats. I saved the attachment to a temporary folder and scanned it again. Nothing. I turned the heuristics level up to high and still nothing. Absolutely useless.

I should also note that My ISP uses some sort of commercial version of a Norton/Symantec product to filter e-mail.

A quick check with Kaspersky's online virus scanning service revealed the attachment to be a variant of a common worm. Nothing very new or special.

AVG is no more useful than a wet tissue. Seriously, I'm cleaning all manner of crap out of systems that are "protected" by it. Avast! is a much better alternative for those too cheap to pay.

I've switched to Kaspersky Antivirus Personal Pro now and find it excellent. Definition updates every Hour are also a big bonus feature.

However there may be something better still. AntiVirusKit is a virus scanner with a difference, it has two virus scanning engines.
Essentially AntiVirusKit is just a frontend for two licenced engines from Kaspersky & BitDefender.
They claim that with both engines you should get the highest rate of detections.

McAfee can suck my balls. I gave-up using McAfee AntiVirus 5 years ago for basically the same reasons I did with Norton Antivirus.

Some criticism of Kaspersky though.
Their Pro version of their virus scanner does have a much better interface than the standard version, however they don't update it nearly as often. Right now if you have the standard version you can enable extra protection for your computer by pointing it to update from a new subdirectory on kaspersky's update servers. What you get is extra definition files which add Spyware detection support to your virus scanner. Pro version users don't have a scanner new enough to understand these additional files.

And one more gripe. Kaspersky Anti-Hacker may be the best firewall I've used. Online firewall tests such as the one at GRC.com show it to be completely stealthy. Much better than BlackICE which I currently use.
BUT! There is some kind of problem and other people have experienced it too. 10-15 minutes after conneting to the internet, my connection will die. Traffic just stops and requires a reboot to fix it for another 10-15 minutes. I can't find-out what causes it or why only some people are experiencing it. Apparently I've just got to wait until they release a new version. A damn shame. I liked the interface a lot too.

Oh yes and removing Zone Alarm from a system completely is like pulling teeth. The uninstaller does'nt remove the firewall driver components at all, it just changes the connection rules to allow all traffic and pretend like they are'nt there. A cause of such mysery when an ethernet connection or something has been added to a computer afterwards and unexplainably does'nt work.

okay. u guyz have mentioned like 5 different anitvirus and firewall programs. half the people i know either really like norton or really hate it. Their 2005 version apparently has a software problem, that cant be patche because it is an internal problem. Mcafee is only good if ure a business. AVG is good but it is not as efficient as some of the paid. The AntiVirus kit is one of the best, its only problem being its usage of RAM.

After months of research iv come to the conclusion that the best software for a computer are PC-cillin Internet security 2005, and System mechanic 5 pro. The first is efficient and uses very little RAM. also it comes with antispyware, wireless detection, privacy service, and is updated at least once a day. also customer help is free for one year on a toll-free number. System mechanic comes with its own antivirus and firewall, but i suggest using pccillin if u can. however system mechanics other features have no rival. It has system sweep features, which get sweep the system for unclean files, duplicate files, the best popup stopper i have seen, and an unistaller. it fixes, optimizes, and compresses the registry. it has anti spyware, a file incinerator, system snapshot, internet speed optimizer, and RAM and hard disk defragmentor and optimizer.

in short the presence of these two software should be enough to keep a healthy computer.
